Pastor Ray Anderson of the House of Help Community Center had his center’s water shutoff less than 24 hours after speaking out our rally against the City’s destructive water shutoff program.
When we arrived to the center, a mailman was delivering the water shutoff notice itself, hours after City workers had already shut him off. The notice indicated that Pastor Anderson had until 9/29/14 to make a payment before shutoff would be initiated. The Andersons are currently in negotiation with Detroit Public Schools (DPS) to purchase the abandoned elementary school building they renovated with their own money to transform it into a community center and local ministry.
